AKROPOLIS
REPORT - FAN MEETING
Tuesday 19th June 2001 - The Fan Meeting at Syntagma Square
11:15am: Jarre UK receives a text message demanding a presence from us
guys as we were "letting the side down" on the current UK presence
for the fan meeting (mainly because Martin and Tracy from Jarrelook were
the only UK people there at the time, and they were early...).
Still buzzing inside from the previous night's Rehearsals performance
by Jean Michel Jarre and crew (and taking some good photos aswell), we
decide to get some photos developed before going to the fan meeting (we
did this a few hours previous to 11:30 when the shops opened). Most of
them came out well, and can be seen on these very pages of Jarre UK in
the Gallery.
11:30am (roughly) - Anyway, everyone began to gather next to the fountain
on Syntagma Square (on a blisteringly HOT day...) - we say "next"
to the fountain, but was actually underneath a fair amount of trees, and
was "fun" trying to make sure everyone was underneath them so
that we didn't get sunburnt... ;-)
Was nice to meet some new faces that we hadn't met before, including a
certain YaXoMoXaY (you may know him from #jmj IRC channel) and Robyn,
who came all the way from New York to see one of the concerts.
Unfortunately, due to everyone having a very good chat with everyone else,
we missed the changing of the guards which Michel Voorn had set out to
do, so we proceeded to take some group photos instead...
Then a bit more deciding on what to do occurred, and we all eventually
decided to go get something to drink, and also to TRY and find somewhere
that could accomodate us all. We finally decided on a decent sized Taverna
which was just around the corner from our own hotel.
By this time, some more people had caught up with us (although they were
with us from the group photo session, we personally at Jarre UK didn't
notice them until we arrived in the Taverna...).
So, onto the drinks, with most people having a cold, fruit drink of some
kind - a lot opting for Milkshakes... And some also ordering large doses
of food (as they thought everyone was ordering, even though we weren't...)
Anyway, while we were enjoying our drinks (and gossip) Stratos spotted
a local street musician with an Accordian (I think you may have a good
idea about what happens next...) - in which he quickly paid the guy so
that he could borrow the Accordian to play a rendition of Chronologie
6! :-) Unfortunatelty though, Accordian's are difficult to play (and hold..)
and so the ensuing result did not turn out all that well for Stratos,
but a good time was had by all, and a good laugh aswell.
After this, people decided to break off and do other things instead, and
so we did, with some heading for the Acropolis (where we had been the
day previous - not a good idea cos the weather was hotter on Monday) and
us guys decided to head back to the hotel to get some money, and go have
lunch with Martin and Tracy from Jarrelook in a nice outdoor Taverna we
had discovered on the Monday (the place being covered by quite a lot of
vines...) - a place we would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone... if
only we could remember the name of the place......
Also, if you are on these photographs, but haven't been mentioned (ie
your name...) then please contact us and we'll put your name in the spotlight!
And finally, we recorded most of the Fan Meeting onto video, so when we
get a video card for our PC, then we will transfer the video into either
DivX format or something similiar and post it on here... :)
Enjoy the photographs... :)
