Discography
Welcome
to the Discography pages of JARRE UK.
20 years after the extraordinary success of the original Oxygene album,
Jean Michel Jarre revisits his past with a welcome return to his original
style of composition with a continuation of the original Oxygene theme.
Originally intended for release in 1996 (to coincide with the release
of the original Oxygene album in 1976), the album was delayed slightly
until 1997 - probably down to the fact Jean Michel brought in Christian
Sales to re-program parts of the whole album, and re-work the drums on
Oxygene 8... Also, the album was originally set to have only 6 compositions
- like Oxygene - but thereafter Jarre decided not to be limited with his
compositions and to let himself evolve and move freely without any restrictions
in his work - and thus the result was a combination of old analogue synthesizers
with new digital technology - a combination that works perfectly.
Oxygene 7-13 has the atmosphere and environment of the original Oxygene,
but with a whole new feel and rhythem to it - giving the album a modern,
'dancy' feel - and because of this (and probably because it has Oxygene
in the title) the album was to gain Top 10 chart success in many European
countries - and also gained a USA release too.
Also, in 1997, Jean Michel took Oxygene on the road, with his first indoor
tour - originally intending it to be a World Tour, but only getting as
far as Europe, which was unfortunate for a lot of fans around the globe.
Oxygene 7-13 is dedicated to Pierre Schaeffer - the man who was Jean Miche's
guru during his time while studying with the "Groupe de Recherches
Musicales" who were a group devoted to experimental music. Pierre
Schaeffer taught Jean Michel how to combine the essence of music using
different media, and so, under the wing of his mentor, Jean Michel became
familiar with the latest instruments in the field of electro-acoustic
music.
