Discography

Welcome to the Discography pages of JARRE UK.

Released on the very same day as the concert in Houston, Rendez-vous was composed as a draft, in 2 months, in accordance to the visual spectaculars he was creating for Houston and Lyon that year. The album was basically sculptured in the same way a film score is composed after the film has been conceived.

Because the album was pieced together in 2 months, Rendez-vous does not have the 'experimental' feel of his previous albums. Reasons for this one would assume is because of the nature of the piecing together of the album.

Thus, the concept of the album has actually been around since 1975... the main basis for Rendez-vous 2 came from a song Jean Michel had composed for Gerard Lenorman, entitled 'La Belle et la Bette' (The Beauty and the Beast); Rendez-vous 3 comes from another track composed for Lenorman entitled 'La Mort du Cygne' (The death of the swan); and the main part of Rendez-vous 5 is taken from the unique Music For Supermarkets.

Rendez-vous was also to be dedicated to the memory of the crew of the Challenger shuttle disaster, in which one of its astronauts, Ron McNair, was to perform the final track from the album with his saxaphone live from space at the Houston concert. But because of the disaster, the Houston concert became a tribute, with Kirk Whalum taking the part of Ron McNair to perform a very moving rendition of 'Ron's Piece'.
