'JARRELOOK', The UK Jean Michel Jarre Tribute Band, are Husband & Wife duo Martin & Tracy Frankcom. Originally formed in 1998 under the name 'JARRELOOKOLOGIE', 'JARRELOOK' have gone on from strength to strength over the last six years. With their impressive collection of Antique Analogue Synthesizers including The Eminent, The Logan, The Mellotron and The Solina, their Tracklist has grown to a very impressive 28 Tracks.

This 'JARRELOOK' Concert will feature a performance of 24 Jean Michel Jarre Tracks, including 3 Brand NEW Tracks, Pyrotechnics, Programmed Lighting, Laser Projections, Video Projections, and for the very first time, will feature their own custom built 650mW Full Size 8-Beam Laser Harp.

This Concert will mark only the second time that they have performed at The Charter Theatre, their last performance there was on November 30th 2001, and since that performance, they have only performed once, and this was at a Charity Concert at Haslingden Public Hall on April 6th 2002.

'JARRELOOK's 2-Year absence has been due to the 18 Month development of their own custom built 650mW Full Size 8-Beam Laser Harp. JARRE UK has witnessed this in action during Rehearsals, and can only describe it as "awesome". In our opinion, seeing the Laser Harp alone, is worth £15 of anybody's money. So..buy your Tickets now, and we'll see you in July :)

Chris Wray has also designed an Officially Endorsed 'JARRELOOK' T-Shirt, featuring 'JARRELOOK' Photos taken by Dunkie (Web-Master of JARRE UK). Priced at $13.99 (approximately £7.61/11.46 Euros), it is now available exclusively from Cafe Press (www.cafeshops.com)...Click Here For More

Although JARRE UK will be attending the 'JARRELOOK' Concert, we may not be able to attend the Fan Meeting, as Dunkie (Web-Master of JARRE UK) is assisting with 'JARRELOOK's Concert, and will be on stage through the entire performance, delivering LIVE Video to the Projection Screen.

Therefore, depending on how well the Stage Setup and any Last Minute Rehearsals are going, JARRE UK cannot guarantee attending the Fan Meeting. Should the opportunity arise, JARRE UK will make every effort to attend the Fan Meeting at some point, as will 'JARRELOOK' themselves.

'JARRELOOK's Laser Harp

JARRELOOK' Laser Harp (April 2004) © Duncan Walls

"The Laser Harp uses a 650mW Laser Quantum Entertainer 532nM (Green) Laser Head, with 1/2 a Catweazle Wide-Scan Galvo-System, essentially a Single Laser Beam that fires at a Mirror that moves several times a second, to give the Laser Harp's 8-Beam appearance."

"Putting Laser Strength into perspective, the average Laser Pointer uses a 1-3mW Laser Head and the average Laser Projector uses a 65mW Laser Head. A
nything above 5mW constitutes a hazard to the eyes and anything above 500mW constitutes a burning hazard. Therefore it is impossible to keep your hand in the Laser Harp for more than about a second without protection, as it burns, and should the Laser Harp catch you directly in the eye, you would be blinded instantly."

(Editor's Note: JARRE UK witnessed the Laser Harp burn through Plain White Paper in just 3.79 Seconds!!!)

"The Laser Harp is a dedicated Electronic Hardware design, as the Software design that was originally envisaged, proved impossible to achieve. The Laser Harp does not use Top-Beam Sensors, but uses a Single Sensor at Floor Level. The Laser Harp Electronics know where the Laser Beam is at any given time, therefore when the Laser Beam is broken, it is detected by the Bottom Sensor, and the Laser Harp Electronics know which Laser Beam is broken. The Laser Harp Electronics then translate the broken Laser Beam into a MIDI Message and routes it to the appropriate Synthesizer via the Master Sequencing Computer."

"The Notes assigned to the Laser Harp Beams are not chromatic, but varies from Track to Track. For example, one of the Track's that we will be playing on the Laser Harp at the Concert has 2 B's, an Octave apart. Learning to play the Laser Harp has therefore been very difficult, as we have to follow a Number Sequence (Laser Beams 1-8) rather than a Note Sequence."

"The construction of the Laser Harp has been very difficult because of it's Bottom-Sensor Design. A Top-Sensor Design would have been much easier to construct, but this would have required a Frame around the Laser Harp, to accurately position the Sensors. Unfortunately, a Bottom-Sensor Design is very sensitive to Ambient Light, and even with a Laser Beam as powerful as 650mW, it is difficult to get accurate triggering, especially on the outer Laser Beams. As a result of this, reliability has proved a major headache, but, we have overcome this problem, and the Laser Harp is now triggering reliably at Shoulder Height, let alone the Normal Height of operation."

'JARRELOOK'
(April 2004)

(Editor's Note: Since this Interview was conducted, 'JARRELOOK's Laser Harp is now Polyphonic, which means that any number of Laser Beam's can be played at the same time!!!)

'JARRELOOK's Latest Instrument

'JARRELOOK' Bell (May 2004) © Duncan Walls

'JARRELOOK's Latest Instrument is a Huge Church Bell.

This Fibre-Glass Replica is an authentic reproduction of Jean Michel Jarre's Bell, that he used at his 'TWELVE DREAMS OF THE SUN' Concert in Egypt.

(Editor's Note: No prizes for guessing what Track this is going to be used for!!!)
